Naveen Yadav Sworn in as Jubilee Hills MLA
BRS rival defeated by a margin of 24,729 votes in recent Assembly by election
Hyderabad: Newly-elected Congress MLA from the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency V. Naveen Yadav took oath on Wednesday in the presence of Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, ministers, Congress MLAs, MLCs and senior party leaders. With his swearing-in, the Congress strength in the 119-member Assembly rose to 66, while the BRS tally dropped to 37.
The Congress, which secured 64 seats in the 2023 Assembly elections, enhanced its number to 66 by winning the Secunderabad Cantonment bypoll in May 2024 and the Jubilee Hills bypoll in November 2025. Both constituencies went to bypolls following the untimely demise of sitting BRS MLAs Lasya Nanditha and Maganti Gopinath. The BRS, which held 39 seats after the 2023 elections, lost both these segments and now stands at 37.
Speaking to the media, Naveen said taking oath on Constitution Day was a privilege. He assured that he would uphold the trust placed in him by the people of Jubilee Hills and work diligently for the constituency’s development. He said that all promises made during the election campaign would be fulfilled and noted that several local issues had already been brought to his notice after his victory.
Naveen criticised the personal attacks targeting him and his family on social media during the election campaign. He said the Jubilee Hills result reflected increased public confidence in the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He stated that the bypoll would have taken place regardless, asserting that the legal case involving Maganti Gopinath was ongoing at the time of his demise. He added that the case filed against Gopinath had since been withdrawn. The MLA expressed gratitude to the AIMIM for extending support during the bypoll, saying the cooperation contributed to the Congress victory in Jubilee Hills.
