Nalgonda: Chandur Cops Arrest Couple For Circulating Fake Currency

NALGONDA: Chandur police on Monday arrested a man and his wife in Nalgonda for allegedly printing and circulating fake currency notes, police said.

The accused were identified as Bezawada Rajeev, 38, alias Raju, and his wife Duram Pavani, 26) residents of Kancherla Towers on Miryalaguda Road in Nalgonda. A case was registered against them after Rajeev allegedly tried to buy a milk packet using a fake ₹500 note at a milk centre in Chandur.

The shop owner recognised the note as counterfeit and lodged a complaint with Chandur police. During the investigation, police identified the accused and raided their flat in Nalgonda.

Police seized 15 fake ₹500 notes, a printer and paper allegedly used to print counterfeit currency. The accused allegedly targeted shops where elderly people handled cash transactions and exchanged the fake notes there, police said.

According to police, the couple learned how to prepare counterfeit currency by watching videos on YouTube.

Rajeev has a criminal record and is an accused in a murder case. He is also involved in seven cases related to fake currency circulation registered at police stations in Mahbubabad, Torrur, Karimnagar Town-I, Godavarikhani Town-I, Jangaon, Addanki, Subedari and Miryalaguda Town-I.

Nalgonda DSP K. Shivaram Reddy disclosed the details at a press conference in Nalgonda.
