Teen Out To ‘Steal’ Bat Kills Girl Who Saw Him
After five days of investigation, the police identified the suspect and took him into custody.
Hyderabad: A 14-year-old was arrested by the Kukatpally police for allegedly murdering the 10-year-old girl in Kukatpally. The incident was reported five days ago, when her father saw her body in their home in a pool of blood, with nearly 20 stab injuries. The minor boy was picked up from his school.
Deccan Chronicle is withholding certain details as the victim and the alleged assailant are minors.
According to Balanagar DCP K. Suresh, the motive behind the murder was to acquire a cricket bat that the boy wanted. The minor boy lives adjacent to the girl's house. He entered the victim's house by jumping over the wall. While attempting to flee with the cricket bat, he was obstructed by the victim. When he tried to escape, the girl caught his shirt and started shouting in order to raise an alarm.
Police said that believing there was no other way out, he pushed her on the bed, closed his eyes and stabbed her multiple times, police said. He then washed the knife in a wash basin near the bed and fled the scene.
"He was well aware of the movements of the girl's family. He wanted the bat, which belonged to the deceased's brother, since the day he played with it. Assuming she would not be home, he entered the house and was shocked when he found her," officials said.
Police also claim a letter was recovered from the boy, which they say details how he had decided to commit the theft. Towards the end, he labelled the theft as "Mission Don" in the letter. Police also recovered a diary from the accused's possession, which detailed several theft plans he had imagined and noted down.
Police said the minor confessed to having gotten these ideas from Netflix series and TV shows. While the boy initially refused to confess to the crime, police conducted searches in his house and found the letter, a knife and blood-stained clothes in his possession.
Police said they started suspecting him after a software employee informed them he spotted the boy step out of the house.
On August 18, a 10-year-old was found dead at her residence in Kukatpally. The parents grew suspicious after they got a call from the school of their son, who said that the lunch box, which the victim was supposed to be sending, was not delivered.
The minor boy, who has been accused of the crime, is a Class X student. His father is currently unemployed and his mother is a private employee. Police said his parents were unaware of the murder. Reports mentioned that the boy was familiar with the girl and had last met her on her birthday on April 19, during the celebration.
Meanwhile, addressing the media, locals spoke about sleepless nights ever since the incident occurred. "Some of us have not stepped out for the past two days. We have not been able to sleep ever since we saw her body. We do not know how or who did this, but the emotional cost of it is too high."
While police have officially confirmed the arrest, there were several contradictions in the facts of the case detailed by different wings involved in the detection. While SOT claims that the minor was identified as a prime suspect on Thursday, local police said they had been monitoring the boy's movement at his school and house for the past three days.
Further details would be revealed by the police in a press meet on Saturday.
