Major political parties have initiated preparations for the election. In the municipal corporation, the mayor’s post is held with the support of Congress, MIM and BRS, while the BJP, despite winning the highest number of corporator posts, is in the opposition.
Sources indicated that Congress is likely to secure four co-option member posts, while MIM may get one. Officials will finalise the list of candidates after receiving applications.
Co-option members will be elected during a special meeting of the municipal council. If the number of candidates equals the available seats, they will be elected unopposed; otherwise, voting will be conducted.
Of the five posts, three are reserved for minorities, while the remaining will be filled from women and former corporator categories.
The newly elected co-option members will participate in municipal corporation meetings but will not have voting rights.
