Municipal Polls Counting Begins in Telangana amid Tight Security

Hyderabad: The counting of the postal ballot votes polled during the municipal elections conducted in Telangana on Wednesday commenced on Friday amid tight security.

The election results were expected to be completed by evening and the first results were expected to be declared before noon from Kodangal, which has only 12 wards.

The elections were conducted in 116 municipalities and seven corporations. The process began at 8 a.m. As per protocol, postal ballots votes were counted first, followed by regular ballot votes counting.

As many as 136 counting centres have been set up for the smooth conduct of the counting. The entire counting process was being conducted under CCTV surveillance to ensure transparency and smooth conduct, according to officials.

Nearly 12,000 police personnel and Quick Response Teams have been deployed at the counting centres to maintain law and order. Prohibitory orders were enforced around the counting centres. Only the counting supervisors, counting assistants, candidates and their election and counting agents were allowed inside the counting hall. Over 73 per cent of voters exercised their franchise in the elections held on Wednesday.
