Mrigashira Karthi Sparks Rush at Fish Markets
Prices soar as seafood lovers throng Hyderabad’s famed Musheerabad fish market ahead of the auspicious occasion.
Hyderabad: The impact of Mrigashira Karthi was evident across fish markets in the city, with the popular Musheerabad Fish Market witnessing a huge influx of buyers on Monday.
With Mrigashira Karthi falling on Monday and the weekend adding to the demand, seafood enthusiasts flocked to the market in large numbers, leading to heavy congestion. Fish vendors lined the stretch from Ramnagar Crossroads to Dayara Market Road, catering to the surge in customers.
Fish prices shot up significantly due to increased demand. Ravva and Bocche varieties, which usually sell for ₹120-130 per kg, were sold at ₹230-250 per kg. Korameenu, typically priced around ₹450 per kg, was sold for as high as ₹650 per kg on Sunday.
Vendors said demand remained exceptionally high as many people traditionally consume fish during Mrigashira Karthi, resulting in brisk sales throughout the day.
