Monsoon in South, Searing Heat in North Telangana

Rainfall continued to remain uneven across the state. Bhadradri Kothagudem led in cumulative rainfall surplus since June 1, followed by Khammam and Mulugu. Hyderabad also remained in the excess rainfall category.

Hyderabad: The southwest monsoon has advanced further into Telangana, but large parts of the state continue to experience heatwave conditions and temperatures above 40°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said conditions remained favourable for the monsoon to cover the rest of the state within the two to three days.

Despite the monsoon’s advance, northern districts remained among the hottest in the state. Telangana development planning society (TGDPS) data showed Mancherial and Peddapalli recorded 42.9°C, while Adilabad, Jagtial, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mulugu, Nalgonda, Nirmal, Warangal and Rajanna Sircilla registered temperatures between 42.8°C and 42.2°C. The state’s average maximum temperature stood at 40.3°C.

Heatwave conditions were reported in Jainoor and Lingapur mandals of Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district, while Sirpur-U witnessed severe heatwave conditions.

Hyderabad remained relatively cooler, with an average maximum temperature of about 39°C. The highest temperature of 39.9°C was recorded in localities including Bandlaguda, Charminar, Amberpet, Secunderabad and Yousufguda, while most GHMC circles recorded temperatures between 38.5°C and 39.5°C.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers across Telangana over the next three days. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad and Nagarkurnool, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are expected in Hyderabad and several neighbouring districts.
For Hyderabad, partly cloudy skies and evening or night thundershowers are likely over the next few days. TGDPS forecasts indicate temperatures could ease to around 36°C-37°C by the weekend.
