Hyderabad: Hyderabad witnessed widespread rainfall on Friday evening, prompting weather authorities to issue a yellow warning for the city and surrounding areas. Several localities recorded heavy showers, causing concerns about waterlogging and traffic disruptions.
Koti, Suchitra, Rajendranagar, Attapur, Manikonda, Nampally, Shamshabad, Tarnaka, Miyapur and Madinaguda received heavy rainfall along with gusty winds. Thunders were also reported from many other parts of the city.
Civic authorities and emergency teams have been placed on alert to respond to any incidents such as fallen trees, waterlogging or disruptions to power supply. In a statement, HYDRAA said its Disaster Response Force (DRF) and Monsoon Emergency Teams (MET) personnel were working on the ground and tending to citizen complaints. “Staff are working to clear waterlogging and obstructions," HYDRAA said.
According to forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad, heavy rainfall is expected to continue across Hyderabad through the night. Officials have warned that all of the city is likely to experience moderate to heavy showers until around 01 am.
The yellow warning indicates that residents should remain alert and take precautions while travelling. Motorists have been advised to drive carefully as roads may become slippery and visibility could be reduced during periods of intense rainfall.
