CCTV footage shows there was no confrontation or verbal or physical altercation. Although the MLA’s complaint drew attention from the home minister’s office and the CMO, especially in light of two recent political shootings, police briefed the MLA and are now preparing to close the case.
Hyderabad: The claim of Secunderabad Cantonment Congress MLA N. Sriganesh that he escaped an attempted attack near Tarnaka during Bonalu festivities has turned out to be false. Police investigations and CCTV footage confirmed there was neither a confrontation nor an assault and the case is expected to be closed soon.
According to officials, 10 friends riding on five bikes were identified, one of whom was reportedly drunk. The group was travelling from one Bonalu celebration to another. At the time of the alleged incident, the Cantonment MLA was heading towards Manikeshwarnagar, while the group was riding towards Amberpet and Narayanguda.
Mistaking the group for a 30-member mob, as claimed in his complaint, the MLA rushed to the OU police station. A case under Section 70(C) of the City Police Act was registered by the police.
The incident, which lasted barely 40 seconds, involved a drunken man reacting to honking from the MLA’s vehicle. He briefly stepped off his bike and asked the driver to roll down the window, allegedly to identify the occupant, said an officer.
CCTV footage shows there was no confrontation or verbal or physical altercation. Although the MLA’s complaint drew attention from the home minister’s office and the CMO, especially in light of two recent political shootings, police briefed the MLA and are now preparing to close the case.
Inputs from the intelligence wing also indicated there was no premeditated plan to attack the MLA. Officials suspect the incident may have been exaggerated to seek a pilot convoy for the legislator.
