Hyderabad:The State Election Commission on Wednesday asked the representatives of political parties to submit an affidavit within three days on the implementation of Nota (None of the above) in the local body elections. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Congress, BJP, BRS, CPM, CPI, MIM, Telugu Desam, and Jana Sena and the BJP.

During a meeting with all political parties in the state on Wednesday, the State Election Commission officials explained about the implementation of Nota in the ensuing local body elections following the Supreme Court’s orders.

However, the proposal received mixed responses, with the CPM and Jana Sena coming in support of using Nota in panchayat elections to prevent auction of sarpanch posts. The BJP and Telugu Desam representatives sought time to respond on the issue.

The Congress leaders said the Election Commission must think of possibilities to conduct elections without Nota to avoid legal issues. They said the Election Commission has powers to prevent the auctions in villages.
