Minister Srinivas unveils agri-MSME cluster plan for mango growers in Vizianagaram

VISAKHAPATNAM: Minister for SMEs, Rural poverty alleviation Kondapalli Srinivas, unveiled a series of initiatives to strengthen the agri-economy of Vizianagaram district, at at the inaugural general body meeting of the Gajapathinagaram Agricultural Market Committee.
He proposed forming a cluster of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) focused on the district’s mango cultivation, to be facilitated through a mandal-level federation. A dedicated unit would enable value-added processing, thereby boosting income opportunities for farmers. The minister also announced plans to set up exclusive counters for organic produce in the new market complex coming up at Gajapathinagaram.
Highlighting agriculture’s 27 per cent contribution to the state’s GDP, the Minister called for enhancing market yard infrastructure, improving farmer incomes through better pricing mechanisms, and encouraging the production of value-added agri-products. He also underscored the importance of preparing a detailed vision document for the constituency, backed by crop-level data and insights on cultivation patterns.
Committee chairman P.V.V. Gopal Raju informed the gathering that the committee had passed a resolution to establish a weekly market and cold storage facilities. He sought the Minister’s support for necessary approvals and mobilisation of resources. The committee also discussed plans to utilise the available 12 acres of land to generate revenue and expand facilities in the market yard.
