KARIMNAGAR: Welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar expressed dissatisfaction over several issues, particularly the quality of food served to students, during a surprise visit to the Government Girls Gurukul School in Chintakunta, Karimnagar district, on Monday.
When the school principal informed the minister that they had been receiving poor quality, coarse rice instead of fine rice for cooking over the past 15 days, the minister expressed anger at the civil supplies department officials. He immediately called the district supply officer (DSO) and ordered the replacement of the low-quality rice with fine rice.
The minister also spoke to civil supplies commissioner Chauhan and instructed him to take immediate action against the negligent DSO. He set a strict deadline of two days to resolve the issue.
After inspecting the kitchen, school premises, and surroundings, the minister also expressed displeasure over the lack of basic facilities. He gave several suggestions for improvement and assured that action would be taken within a week on various developmental projects. These include improving the mess area, hiring outsourced staff, installing additional water plants, providing steel cooking vessels, constructing a boundary wall, and developing a playground.
Later, while interacting with parents, the minister said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is giving special attention to the welfare of students studying in government schools. He added that the government, fully committed to their well-being, would take all necessary measures without compromise.
The minister then had lunch with the students and assured them that all problems related to the school would be resolved within a week.
