Nalgonda: Roads and Buildings minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Tuesday pledged to place Nalgonda district at the forefront of development and welfare in Telangana.

Speaking after unfurling the National Flag during the Telangana Formation Day celebrations at the police parade ground here, he recalled the district’s key role in the Telangana agitation, which continued until statehood was achieved. Nalgonda was an icon of struggle, contributing to the agrarian armed movement led by Communists.

People of Nalgonda did not remain silent when Osmania University students faced police lathis, and when Srikantha Chary sacrificed his life for Telangana. Venkat Reddy himself resigned from his ministerial post and undertook an indefinite hunger strike for the cause.

He said it was time to repay the people of Nalgonda for supporting him through three decades of political life, pledging to develop the district as No.1 in welfare and growth. He vowed to secure irrigation and drinking water facilities and create job opportunities for the unemployed.

The minister stated that the Congress government under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was striving to make Telangana the country’s leading state through welfare schemes and development initiatives aimed at ensuring a golden future. On women’s welfare, he said beneficiaries in Nalgonda district had availed free travel worth Rs 508.85 crore through 10.83 crore journeys in TGSRTC buses.

He added that Nalgonda farmers were the largest beneficiaries of the Rythu Bharosa investment support scheme. For the 2025 kharif season, Rs 717.42 crore was deposited into the accounts of 5,26,968 farmers, while Rs 447.16 crore was released for the rabi season.

Venkat Reddy informed that 441 roads covering 6,092 km were being developed under the Hybrid Annuity Model at a cost of Rs 13,000 crore, with works ready to commence. As part of the project, Rs 949.95 crore has been sanctioned to upgrade 341.11 km of major roads into two‑lane highways, with works in progress.

Earlier, the minister paid tribute to Telangana martyrs at the pylon located at Clock Tower Centre in Nalgonda. MLC Nellikanti Satyam, district collector Badugu Chandrashekar and superintendent of police Sharath Chandra Pawar also attended the celebrations.
