Mining Expo to Be Held in Kolkata in October
Event to highlight India’s rare earth strategy
Hyderabad: A four-day international exhibition-cum-congress of the mining, metal and allied industries will be organised in Kolkata from October 30. It will deliberate India’s bid to extract rare earth minerals from the recently acquired five lithium blocks in Argentina.
Union minister of coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy will be present. According to Coal India CMD PM Prasad, India's steel demand is projected to grow eight to nine per cent in 2025. Lithium and critical mineral blocks to be sourced from Argentina and Australia respectively will play an important role in the production of clean energy, he said.
There would be no shortage of coal, he said, for electricity generation as the domestic coal production will clock 900 million tonnes in 2026 against 875 million tonnes at present, a release said.
More than 600 exhibitors, 100 speakers from 25 countries are expected to participate in the event. It will focus on establishing India as a global hub for mining and manufacturing, particularly in critical minerals and electronics sectors.
