MIM Nomination Rejected in Bodhan over Tax Row, Party Stages Protest
Following the rejection, MIM leaders staged a protest outside the municipal office.
Nizamabad: Municipal officials rejected the nomination of an All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate in Bodhan on Saturday, triggering a protest by party leaders in front of the Bodhan Municipality.
Election officials rejected the nomination of MIM Bodhan town president Mir Ilyas Ali, citing non-payment of municipal taxes related to his business establishments. Following the rejection, MIM leaders staged a protest outside the municipal office.
After being informed of the development, MIM Hyderabad MLC Mirza Rehmat Baig rushed to Bodhan and held discussions with sub-collector Vikas Mahato. Officials said the returning officer rejected the nomination as tax payment details were not reflected in the municipal records at the time of scrutiny.
MIM leaders expressed strong displeasure over the decision, alleging that all property-related taxes had been cleared prior to filing the nomination. They claimed that due to a delay in updating the payments online, the records were not available to the returning officer. Party leaders also said that Mir Ilyas Ali had submitted a written explanation to the municipal commissioner at the time of filing his nomination, stating that the dues had been paid.
Subsequently, the MIM MLC and party representatives submitted a formal complaint to the Bodhan sub-collector, seeking redressal of the issue.
