MIM Gains From Congress Support

Hyderabad:The polling for the elections to the Legislative Council from Hyderabad Local Authorities' Constituency concluded peacefully on Wednesday with the Congress, BJP and the AIMIM corporators and ex officio members exercising their franchise. The BRS, however, stayed away from polls.

Out of the 112 electors, 88 have cast their vote. Out of this, 66 members were corporators, and 22 were ex officio members. The ex officio members, who cast their vote, include Telangana BJP chief and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi and Telangana Jana Samithi chief and MLC Prof.Kodandaram.

Only the corporators and ex officio members from 15 Assembly constituencies of the Hyderabad district participated.

The polling for the MLC election started at 8 am at the GHMC head office near Tank Bund and continued till 4 pm. Most electors had cast their vote by noon and the counting of votes will be done on Friday.

While Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy wore a black kurta, other BJP members wore black armbands to condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP has 24 electors, including 18 corporators and six ex officio members. The AIMIM has 50 electors comprising 41 corporators and 9 ex officio members.

Similarly, the Congress has 14 electors — seven corporators and seven ex officio members, while 24 electors of the BRS did not participate in the election.

The polling station was set up in the Library Room of GHMC Head Office, and the PS for ex-officio members was at the Building Maintenance Room in the same premises.

Congress corporators, who have shifted their loyalty from the BRS to the Congress, have also cast their vote on Wednesday. The contest is between the BJP’s N. Goutham Rao and the AIMIM’s Mirza Sayeed Ul Hassan Effendi. The Congress did not nominate its candidate to support the AIMIM.
