Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has decided to extend the Hyderabad Metro Rail network up to the proposed Future City on the city outskirts and directed officials to finalise and submit the proposals. He asked officials to expedite Metro Rail expansion projects and secure early approvals from the Centre.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a high-level review meeting on Metro Rail expansion, where he examined the status of the second phase of the Metro Rail project and enquired about the pending Central approvals. Officials informed him that Metro Rail authorities had recently engaged in discussions with Central officials to expedite the process.
The second phase of the Metro Rail project spans 76.4 km and includes five proposed corridors, which include Nagole to Shamshabad Airport (36.8 km), Rayadurgam to Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km), MGBS to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km), and LB Nagar to Hayathnagar (7.1 km).
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 24,269 crore. Both the Central and state governments plan to implement the project as a joint venture, sharing costs equally (50:50). Revanth Reddy instructed officials to maintain regular follow-ups with the union government and begin work immediately upon receiving approval.
The Chief Minister also proposed extending the Metro Rail network by another 40 km from Shamshabad Airport to the upcoming Young India Skills University in Future City, which is being planned across 30,000 acres. He said that this extension should accommodate the city’s future growth, particularly towards Mirkhanpet.
He directed officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) with cost estimates on Shamshabad Airport-Future City Metro Rail connectivity and submit it to the Centre. He added that the HMDA and the Future City Development Authority (FSDA) will jointly implement the expansion plan.
The meeting was attended by government advisers Vem Narender Reddy and K.S. Sreenivasa Raju, IT special chief secretary Jayesh Ranjan, CMO secretary V. Seshadri, MA&UD principal secretary Dana Kishore and Hyderabad Metro Rail MD N.V.S. Reddy.
