Medical Camp Held for GHMC Workers

Hyderabad: A medical camp was organised on Wednesday at Krishna Kanth Park in Jubilee Hills constituency for workers, employees and members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) associated with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The initiative is part of a series of 30 camps aimed at curbing vector-borne diseases. Kits containing soaps, gloves, boots and other safety gear were distributed to sanitation workers.
The camp offered general health check-ups and screenings. The facility was inaugurated by transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who also serves as the minister in charge of Hyderabad district.
“District revenue, municipal and medical staff are jointly conducting these camps to ensure public health in the capital. The government is currently operating 169 Basti Dawakhanas, 91 primary health centres and 11 specialty hospitals in Hyderabad,” the minister said.

Railway veteran appointed to RCT
Hyderabad: G. John Prasad has assumed charge as honorary member (Technical) of the Railway Claims Tribunal, Secunderabad Bench. A 1986 batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), John Prasad, previously served in the same capacity at the Amaravati Bench since April 6, 2023.
He has held several key managerial and executive roles across Indian Railways, including principal chief commercial manager of South Central Railway, principal chief operations manager of South Western Railway and additional divisional railway manager for the Hyderabad and Secunderabad Divisions. He also served as chief general manager of CONCOR (Container Corporation of India Ltd.) for the Southern Region in Chennai.
With extensive experience in commercial operations and claims resolution, John Prasad holds a postgraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Hyderabad.
IIMA alumni launch school for poor
Hyderabad: Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and Director General of Police Jitender inaugurated the new campus of Udbhav School at Shastri Nagar, Fatehnagar, on Wednesday. The school aims to provide quality education to underprivileged children.
The initiative has been led by the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad Alumni Association – Hyderabad Charitable Trust (IIMAA HCT). Retired IPS officer S.V. Ramanamurthy, along with fellow IIMA alumni and board trustees Shanmukh, Harish Kumar, Sitaram and Sri Harsha, have collectively worked to establish the institution.
The school will offer value-based education from LKG to Class X, primarily catering to children from slum areas in Rasoolpura and Fatehnagar.
Eapcet second phase counselling starts on July 25
Hyderabad: Of the 94,354 candidates who exercised web options in the first phase of EAPCET-2025 engineering counselling, 77,561 were allotted seats, while 59,980 confirmed their allotments by completing the self-reporting process.
As many as 17,581 candidates lost their admissions by failing to self-report online and pay the tuition fee before the July 22 deadline. These forfeited seats, along with 5,493 seats that remained vacant after the first phase, will be available in the second phase of counselling, which begins with registration on July 25.
Certificate verification will be held on July 26, and web options will be open on July 26 and 27. Students are advised to exercise as many options as possible to improve their chances of securing admission in better colleges or courses.
Provisional seat allotment will be released on or before July 30. Candidates must self-report and pay the processing fee online between July 30 and August 1. Reporting at the allotted college is scheduled between July 31 and August 2.
GHMC, HYDRAA launch drainage fixes
Hyderabad: A stormwater drain will be constructed at Siddhi Vinayaknagar in Khanamet, new pumps will be installed at the Road under Bridge (RuB) at Kothaguda Chowrasta and clogged drainage channels will be revived alongside silt removal from stormwater drains.
These works were initiated following an inspection of flood-prone roads and water-logging points at Miyapur, Kondapur, Gachibowli and Kothaguda by officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and the police department.
During the visit, GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan directed officials to begin construction of stormwater drains at Khanamet. HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath instructed staff to install new water pumps at the Kothaguda RuB, as the existing pumps were non-functional.
Associate professors promoted to fill vacancies
Hyderabad: The department of health, medicine and family welfare released notification for promotion of 279 associate professors from various medical colleges across the state to the post of professors on Wednesday. The long-awaited promotions have been done keeping in mind the requirements of medical colleges facing severe shortage of faculty members. With the new promotions, the Government Medical College, Asifabad in Komaram Bheem, will now have eight new professors and RIMS Adilabad will have 10.
“The entire process, right from considering all three eligible batches, releasing college-wise DPC lists, state-wide vacancy list, to providing options and including Hyderabad for super-specialty disciplines, was inclusive as well as innovative. We sincerely thank the government for taking into account timely feedback from the ground at every stage," said Dr Kiran Madhala from Telangana Teaching Government Doctors Association.
Fire at Ramkey waste facility triggers panic
Hyderabad: A fire broke out at the Hyderabad Waste Management Project, Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited , in Dundigal late Monday night, reportedly due to a chemical reaction during the night shift. The explosion triggered panic among locals.
Three fire tenders were deployed and firefighting efforts are still underway. While some workers reportedly managed to escape, the exact number present at the time remains unclear. Dundigal police visited the site but have not responded to media queries. No case has been registered so far and further investigation is underway.
