Mediation Can Ensure Speedy Justice: Justice Venu Gopal
Justice Venu Gopal said the increasing number of cases in courts made it necessary for all wings of the judiciary to work in coordination and encourage mediation, with the consent of both parties, to avoid prolonged litigation.
MAHABUBABAD: Telangana High Court judge Justice E.V. Venu Gopal called for greater use of mediation to ensure speedy disposal of cases and make legal services more accessible to people.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Junior Civil Judge-cum-Judicial Magistrate of First Class Court at Maripeda mandal headquarters in Mahabubabad district on Saturday. High Court judges Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao and Justice B.R. Madhusudan Rao also attended.
Justice Venu Gopal said the increasing number of cases in courts made it necessary for all wings of the judiciary to work in coordination and encourage mediation, with the consent of both parties, to avoid prolonged litigation.
He said the new court would enable people in the region to access legal services locally. Earlier, people had to travel around 35 km for court-related work, imposing additional time and financial burdens on litigants.
Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao said mediation centres could help reduce the mounting case burden and called for wider use of mediation in accordance with Supreme Court and High Court guidelines.
Lawyers should identify cases suitable for mediation and explain its benefits to litigants, he said.
Legal officials said cases from several police stations under the jurisdiction of the Maripeda court would henceforth be heard there.
