Hyderabad: In a dramatic conclusion to a tightly contested Sarpanch election, the Congress-supported candidate, Ketawat Sunitha, secured victory in Cheepurudubbathanda village, Medak mandal, after a tie forced the decision to a draw of lots on Sunday.

The election in Cheepurudubbathanda Panchayat, which includes Motu Kadi Thanda and Naili Thanda, saw 377 votes cast. Following the counting, both the Congress-backed Ketawat Sunitha and the BRS-supported candidate, Beamili, were deadlocked, each having secured 182 votes. This equal count left election officials unable to declare a clear winner.

To resolve the stalemate, Returning Officer Venkataiah carried out a draw of lots, as stipulated by election rules for a tie. The lottery favoured Ketawat Sunitha, who was then officially declared the Sarpanch of Cheepurudubbathanda, ending the intense and closely fought local political battle.
