Maternity Leave to Be Treated As Special Leave, Appeals Doctor
The judge took on file a writ plea filed by Dr Ayesha Huma.
Hyderabad: Justice K. Lakshman of the Telangana High Court will examine the legal parameters of maternity leave for a postgraduate medical student. The judge was dealing with a petition seeking permission to appear for the final year MD Paediatrics examinations. The judge took on file a writ plea filed by Dr Ayesha Huma. The petitioner contended that despite being otherwise eligible, she was barred from the examinations scheduled in October 2025, including clinical and viva, solely because she availed maternity leave. The petitioner argued that the action of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences and other authorities was illegal, arbitrary, and violative of the Constitution. She relied on earlier observations of the High Court in similar matters to contend that maternity leave cannot be a ground for denying examination eligibility. Such leave, she argues, should be excluded from consideration while calculating her leave. After hearing the submissions, the judge directed the respondents to obtain instructions and posted the matter to next Tuesday for further hearing.
Status quo on fake LRS approval
Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court took on file a writ plea alleging senior officials of the GHMC facilitated the creation of a fake Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS) approval to carry out a fraudulent land registration in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The judge was hearing a writ plea filed by Sulochana Agarwal. The petitioner contended that a bogus LRS approval allegedly generated with the involvement of GHMC officials was used to execute a sale deed the very next day, which was registered by the concerned sub-registrar. It is the case of the petitioner that the transaction was based on an old sale deed purportedly registered in 1969, allegedly obtained by misusing a civil court decree passed in April 2025 by the additional senior Civil Judge, Medchal-Malkajgiri district. The petitioner further alleged that officials from the office of the deputy commissioner, GHMC, actively interfered in the process, enabling the registration despite glaring irregularities. Considering the serious allegations levelled against state authorities, the judge ordered status quo and posted the matter for further hearing.
Police told to speed up probe in suicide case
Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of the Telangana High Court directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Nagarkurnool Police Station to expedite investigation in a writ plea alleging police inaction in probing the death of a woman by abetment of suicide linked to a chit fund fraud. The judge heard a writ plea filed by Khaja Moinuddin. The petitioner contended that despite the registration of an FIR at Nagarkurnool Police Station, based on his complaint regarding the death of his wife, no effective investigation was undertaken for over six months. It was contended that the petitioner’s wife earlier lodged a complaint at Telkapally Police Station against accused persons who induced her to invest in a chit fund business on the pretext of offering attractive returns, but later cheated her, leading to financial loss and distress. The petitioner alleged that the inaction of the police in both cases amounted to shielding the accused and denying justice. The government pleader on instructions submitted that investigation was in fact underway and pending. Recording the submission, the judge issued the direction and disposed of the writ plea.
