Hyderabad: The city and its suburbs witnessed heavy rainfall for more than two hours disrupting the traffic at several busy stretches on Friday evening.

As the motorists struggled to reach their residences from their work place in the knee-deep water, the traffic police swung into action to clear the water by partially opening the drainage covers to let rain water flow smoothly.

The rain that started around 3 pm continued till 6 pm causing several hardships for the motorists. While a majority of them took shelter beneath the flyovers and metro pillars and stations till rain subsided, others continued to drive their vehicles wearing raincoats.

Marredpally, Picket and parts of cantonment areas registered highest rainfall of 76.3 mm on Friday followed by Prashanthnagar community hall in East Anandbagh registering 73.5 mm and Nacharam 69.5 mm, according to Telangana Development Planning Society.
