4 From Hyd on Way to Cast Vote Die in Bike Crash

Hyderabad:Four members of a family, two kids, travelling on a two-wheeler from the city to Nizamsagar to cast their votes in Sunday’s local body polls were killed when their vehicle rammed into the rear of a stationary tractor-trolley.

The accident occurred near Pedda Shankarampet in Medak district on Saturday evening on National Highway-161. They were headed from Lingampally towards Nizamsagar in Kamareddy district, a distance of about 95 km.

Police identified the victims as Lingamayya and Sayamma and their daughter and son.

According to Alladurg sub-inspector D. Shankar, the accident occurred around 7.30 pm. “They were going to their native place to cast their vote in the local ward elections when the bike hit the tractor-trolley from behind,” the sub-inspector said.

Police said the tractor-trolley did not have adequate illumination or reflective markings. “There were no streetlights on that stretch of the road. Due to poor visibility, the riders could not notice the tractor in time,” Shankar said, adding that Lingayya was wearing a helmet while driving.

“The tractor driver was not injured in the accident,” the sub-inspector said, adding that the driver remained at the scene after the incident.

The bodies of the victims were shifted to a mortuary for postmortem examination, and police were in the process of recording statements from the relatives of the deceased. “We are registering a case against the tractor driver and taking up further investigation,” Shankar said.
