Man Fakes Robbery to Get Himself Killed by Kansas Police
Suspect pointed gun at store manager, called police before fatal encounter
Hyderabad: A Telugu-owned store in Kansas City in the United States became the scene of a fatal shooting after a man confronted the local police with his weapon. The incident happened at Crown Tobacco, a store owned by Shashank Induri.
According to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), 24-year-old Paul Beasley Jr., entered the tobacco store at 8301 State Ave at 2.49 pm on August 8 (August 9 at 1.30 am IST) and pointed a gun at the store manager, brother of owner Shashank Induri.
Paul asked Shashank’s brother to call the police and report that the store was being robbed.
At 2.50 pm, a Kansas City Kansas police department (KCKPD) officer entered the store and observed that Paul was wielding a gun. The officer demanded that Paul walk out of the store, where police had gathered.
The shooting occurred after the assailant followed the officer out of the store. Five police officers fired during the incident, striking Paul.
Paul was shifted to the local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. KBI officials stated that no officers were injured during the incident.
Speaking with local media, Shashank said, “I'm shocked. I clearly don't understand why he did that.” He said that his brother informed him of the situation and mentioned that the man did not attempt to take anything. “He aimed the gun at them, then went out there, and that's it,” he said.
During the shooting, several bullets hit nearby stores, including a barbershop and a closed education centre, along with a parked car. The KBI, in a statement, said that they are investigating the incident and will present the case findings to the Wyandotte county district attorney for determination of charges.
