Karimnagar: A 34-year-old man died by suicide leaving behind a selfie video accusing his wife, mother-in-law and a police officer of harassment here in Karimnagar district. A case was registered against the female Circle Inspector of Karimnagar Women’s Police Station in connection with the death on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Kadari Shravan Kumar, a resident of Choppadandi, had marital disputes with his wife Bathula Neelima who had a four-year-old daughter. Neelima left Shravan and was living with her parents since one year (2024) and filed a domestic violence and dowry harassment case against him at Karimnagar Women’s police station.

Shravan Kumar recorded a video stating that he was consuming pesticide expressing his desire for the truth to come out after his death and for justice to be served for the injustice he faced.

After consuming pesticide, Shravan’s family members immediately shifted him to the hospital where he succumbed to death undergoing treatment for three days on Saturday night.

According to Shravan’s father Lingaiah, his son was unfairly trapped in the case. The CI Srilatha who was looking after the case repeatedly threatened Shravan and created panic that his son would not be able to get out of the case.

Lingaiah said that his son received a phone call from the station asking him to come for bail and fearing potential harm if he went, he took the extreme step of ending his life.

Responding to the situation, the Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gouse Alam assured the Shravan’s family members that a full investigation is underway based on the widely circulated selfie video and stated that all the allegations mentioned in the video are being thoroughly examined and appropriate action will be taken if they are confirmed.

Following the complaint lodged by the Shravan’s father Lingiah, the police registered the case against the Karimnagar Women’s Police Station CI Srilatha and his wife Neelima and five other her relatives at the Choppadandi Police Station.
