Mallu Ravi Draws Flak Over Alleged Assault On BRS MLA
Tensions flared during a CC road foundation stone laying event at Paipad village in Vaddepally mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal district over coconut breaking ceremony: Reports
HYDERABAD: The Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi drew flak for his alleged assault on BRS MLA Vijayudu, following a protocol dispute during an event at Jogulamba Gadwal district. The video-clip purportedly of the event on Tuesday was widely circulated on social media platforms.
Tensions flared during a CC road foundation stone laying event at Paipad village in Vaddepally mandal of Jogulamba Gadwal district over coconut breaking ceremony. The MP who lost his cool allegedly abused and assaulted the Alampur MLA, following an argument. A scuffle broke out when the MLA was asked to stay away from the ceremonial coconut breaking. When the MLA questioned about this, the MP got agitated and allegedly slapped the MLA.
This has invited widespread criticism particularly from BRS leaders. “This is a glaring example of the degraded politics that Congress leaders have stooped to for intimidating the opposition and silencing their voices. Humiliating an elected MLA in front of the people and resorting to physical assault makes it clear just how low the Congress culture has fallen,” KTR posted on X.
Another BRS leader and former IPS officer R. S. Praveen Kumar described the attack as a glaring example of the Congress’ escalating ‘goonda politics’. “In the coming days, they will have to pay a very heavy price,” he said in a post.
Ravi, however, clarified that the social media posts by the opposition were twisting the facts, as there was no scuffle. “If a fight had occurred between the two groups, there would have been bloodshed. To prevent that, I called the police and spoke to them rather sternly.
I had to speak that way to quell the disturbance there. To prevent a fight from happening, I took the MLA aside. I didn't abuse him, neither did I hit him. I only tried to prevent a fight from happening. I had no other intention beyond that,” he said to media persons in Delhi.
