Mallana Gunmen Face Departmental Probe
Sources said now both — identified as Srinivas and Balakrishna —are attached to the Headquarters and an internal inquiry has been launched to assess whether the firing was justified and in line with standard threat response and protocol.
Hyderabad: Two gunmen assigned to the security detail of MLC Chintapandu Naveen, popularly known as Teenmaar Mallanna, opened fire in the air during a confrontation in Boduppal on Sunday, prompting a departmental inquiry and a review of security protocols.
The incident occurred during a sudden face-off between the MLC’s supporters and members of Telangana Jagruthi. To deter a possible direct attack on the legislator, the gunmen fired warning shots. However, video footage of the incident raised concerns, particularly showing one of the gunmen aiming a carbine at the protestors.
Sources said now both — identified as Srinivas and Balakrishna —are attached to the Headquarters and an internal inquiry has been launched to assess whether the firing was justified and in line with standard threat response and protocol. “The enquiry will examine the sequence of events, statements of eyewitnesses and available video footage to determine if firearm use was warranted,” an officer said.
No injuries were reported from the gunfire. However, the incident has raised questions about the security cover, threat perception, and response coordination. Meanwhile, Medipally police are awaiting the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report. The Clues Team has recovered bullets lodged in the roof as part of the investigation.
