Malkajgiri Railway Station is set to get three additional rail lines and two more platforms, with the railways calling e-tenders for the proposed works. The project includes one loop line and two additional lines.

On completion, Malkajgiri will have five platforms and seven railway tracks, enabling the introduction of new trains towards Kurnool, Kazipet, Nalgonda and Nizamabad.

Train travellers have long sought the development of Malkajgiri as a terminal and a stoppage for express trains to cater to residents of Malkajgiri and surrounding colonies.

According to the Train Travellers Association, “The idea of developing Malkajgiri Junction as a second terminal for the Hyderabad Division was originally proposed several years ago. However, due to various administrative reasons, the proposal was subsequently shifted to Charlapalli. We have been consistently pursuing the construction of an additional platform and the expansion of railway infrastructure at Malkajgiri to improve passenger amenities and operational efficiency.”

The association added, “The Hyderabad Division has reportedly initiated a fresh proposal to develop Malkajgiri as a mini-terminal. The proposal includes the construction of additional railway tracks, loop lines, and other supporting infrastructure to reduce congestion at Kacheguda Terminal and improve operational flexibility.”

Frequent travellers and residents welcomed the initiative. The project is expected to facilitate selected passenger and express train services from Malkajgiri towards Kurnool City, Nizamabad and other destinations, besides allowing additional MMTS services in different directions.

Several associations, residents of nearby colonies and frequent travellers have requested the railway minister to inaugurate the redeveloped Malkajgiri Railway Station, either in person or virtually. They have also sought the laying of the foundation stone for the proposed additional tracks and related railway infrastructure on the same occasion.
