Hyderabad: Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar fired back at AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s claim that a burqa-clad woman could one day become India’s Prime Minister, challenging him to first appoint a woman as the president of his party.

In a post on X, Sanjay questioned AIMIM’s representation of Muslim women, asking how many MLA and MP tickets the party had given to women and how many held decision-making posts. “Before dreaming of a burqa-clad woman as PM, show the courage to make one woman AIMIM chief,” he said.

He recalled that during the 2018 polls when the BJP fielded Shahzadi Syed against MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, she was threatened, She now serves on the National Commission for Minorities.

Contrasting BJP’s Minority Morcha with AIMIM’s “rhetoric,” Sanjay accused the Majlis of intimidating Muslim women activists and journalists. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an “elder brother” to Muslim women, citing reforms such as abolishing triple talaq and welfare schemes in women’s names. “BJP empowers women irrespective of religion. Owaisi speaks of empowerment while imposing restrictions at home, party, and public life,” he said.
