Hyderabad: A major accidental fire broke out at a scrap godown in Gulshan Nagar, Bollapur division, on Wednesday night and quickly spread to six adjacent warehouses, triggering panic among residents.
The fire erupted around 9.30 pm at Munir’s scrap godown near the Anjuman Function Hall. Thick, dark smoke soon engulfed the area as the flames spread to neighbouring units.
Alerted by local residents, the fire department rushed two fire tenders and two Hydra teams to the spot. Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours and managed to bring it under control, preventing it from spreading further into nearby residential areas.
As a precaution, the power supply in the locality was immediately cut off, plunging the area into darkness while firefighting and rescue operations were under way. No casualties were reported, police said.
Musheerabad Station House Officer Rambabu and Deputy Inspector Nazimuddin rushed to the scene and are collecting details regarding the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage. A case has been registered and an investigation is under way.
