Warangal: Mahabubabad police led by district superintendent of police 11Kekan on Wednesday cracked down on manufacture and supply of illicit gudumba liquor.

In a coordinated manner, teams of 70 police raided several thandas under various police stations across the district. These include Tilavath thanda in Maripeda mandal, Bodu in Sirole mandal, Chapla in Dornakal mandal, Renya in Kothaguda mandal, Pulsing in Guduru mandal and Salar thanda in Mahabubabad district headquarters.

Police teams seized 143 litres of gudumba worth ₹57,200. They destroyed 1,930 litres of jaggery wash used in the manufacture of gudumba. They registered cases against 12 persons indulging in the illegal business.

Speaking to media, Sudheer Ramnath said many poor families are suffering as their bread earners are getting addicted to consuming gudumba. Some people have even lost their lives after consuming the illicit liquor.

The SP underlined that they would like to make Mahabubabad district gudumba free. As part of it, they have raided various places and seized the illicit liquor, apart from destroying their manufacturing units.

Sudheer Ramnath warned persons habitually manufacturing gudumba to give up their illegal activities. Otherwise, they will be bound over, he warned.

The SP appealed to people that they inform police in case they find anyone manufacturing or selling gudumba in their areas. Details of such persons will be kept secret, he stated.
