Nizamabad: Vice-chancellor of NALSAR University of Law, Prof. Sri Krishna Devaraya, on Sunday said that wherever people were subjected to oppression, standing firmly with victims and fighting for their rights became the daily mission and way of life of late senior advocate Gorreppati Madhava Rao.
He was delivering the memorial lecture at the first death anniversary of Madhava Rao, former state president of the Human Rights Forum, held on Sunday.
Prof. Devaraya recalled that from 1972-73 onwards, during the united Andhra Pradesh era, sustained struggles by civil liberties and human rights organisations against violations in the implementation of laws helped protect several fundamental rights and secure justice for thousands of victims.
He said personalities such as Kannabhiram, Balagopal, and Madhava Rao have remained etched in history for their commitment to human rights, describing Madhava Rao as a person of exceptional character. Observing that laws continue to evolve with changing times, he stressed the need for lawyers and young people to constantly study and understand legal developments.
