Secunderabad: Two men were detained for allegedly raping a 43-year-old woman who had come to the city seeking help for a family dispute through a television programme offering legal advice.

According to Mahankali Police Station (Secunderabad Division) Inspector S Ravi Kumar, the victim, a resident of Rajanna Sircilla district, was married nine years ago and has a seven-year-old son. Due to alleged dowry harassment and family disputes, she has been living separately from her husband for the last two years.

She had seen a programme aired on a prominent TV Channel where they offer solutions for family disputes and decided to attend it to resolve her problems. She arrived at Secunderabad Railway Station, where an unidentified man befriended her and claimed to have contacts with the TV program organisers and promised to help her get justice.

Believing him, the woman accompanied him on his bike and the accused took her to a deserted place in Hyderi Complex in Raniganj, where he allegedly raped her. A short while later, his friend also came and allegedly assaulted her. The woman started screaming for help, and fearing that people would gather, the two accused fled the spot on the bike, leaving her there. The victim somehow managed to reach Mahankali Police Station and lodged a complaint detailing her ordeal.

Acting swiftly based on the information given by the victim and evidence from the scene and other technical evidence, police identified the accused and took them into custody, and they are currently being questioned. Inspector Ravi Kumar said a case has been registered and a detailed investigation is underway. Further details will be released soon, he said.
