Hyderabad: A laser beam light pointing to runway triggered a scare among officials from RGIA and Shamshabad air traffic control (ATC).
Police sources said the laser pointers were reportedly used during a reception party under Shamshabad rural police station limits and the area comes under the rear side of the airport.
The incident prompted the personnel of air traffic control (ATC) to alert RGIA law and order police. Upon receiving information, the message was sent to Shamshabad rural and town police station on January 31 night, a police officer said.
The alerts were issued as the laser lights could have caused discomfort, disorientation and distraction for pilots during the critical flight phases such as landing, takeoff, approaching the runway or during emergency manoeuvring. It was found that the source of laser lights was not pointing it on the runway deliberately. The night duty officers informed the function hall management and party organiser, to stop flashing laser lights.
A senior police official speaking to Deccan Chronicle said, “ So far, we had not received a written complaint from the airport authorities, a case was not filed.”
