Landasangvi Rivulet Desilted, To Provide Water For Adilabad
Local MLA Payal Shankar and Adilabad Assembly Constituency Congress in-charge Kandi Srinivas Reddy had visited the Landasanghi a few days ago and brought the issue to the notice of the municipal officials and district collector Rajarshi Shah.
ADILABAD: People of Adilabad town heaved a sigh of relief after officials recharged the Landasangvi rivulet with water. It was on the verge of drying up a few days ago. The irrigation officials decided to construct two check dams on the Landasangvi to store water and improve groundwater table in the area. The Landasangvi rivulet is the main drinking water source for the people of Adilabad municipality.
Officials took up desiltation works with earth-moving machines. They also asked farmers not to draw water using pump sets in May and posted government employees to monitor the misuse of water.
According to sources, 10 tractors of sand were desilted from two wells in the middle of the water body and also 20 tipper loads of sand were excavated within 50 metres wide and 8 metres depth to recharge the water body.
It is learnt that farmers are cultivating vegetables in nearly 100 acres close to the rivulet and farmers were drawing water using pipes with pump sets due to which water level had fallen in addition to the soaring temperatures in the Landasaghi rivulet.
Local MLA Payal Shankar and Adilabad Assembly Constituency Congress in-charge Kandi Srinivas Reddy had visited the Landasanghi a few days ago and brought the issue to the notice of the municipal officials and district collector Rajarshi Shah. The collector instructed the officials concerned to take up desiltation works.
On the other hand, the Adilabad municipal officials made repairs at the Mavala tank and ensured the water supply to the municipality.
It is said that the water taken from the Mava tank will be supplied to nearly 10 colonies, while water taken from the Landasangvi for the remaining colonies out of a total of 49 wards in the Adilabad Municipality.
G. Nagesh of Vidyanagar Colony said the desiltation works in the Landasagvi rivulet saved the people of Adilabad town this summer and added that for the first time, the Landasagvi rivulet was fully dried up this summer.
