Delhi: Former minister and Bharata Rashtra Samiti (BRS) working president KT Ramarao expressed his concerns over the new UGC guidelines, emphasizing their potential impact on the spirit of federalism. Speaking to the media, KTR revealed that he had met Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to share his views. He highlighted that the new rules place the responsibility of search committees in state universities under the control of governors, which he believes could undermine federal principles.

KTR argued that these guidelines would disproportionately harm SC, ST, and OBC students and that the aim is to centralize control over universities through governors. He further mentioned that a six-page report outlining objections to the UGC rules had been submitted to the Union government, urging that decisions be made in line with the spirit of cooperative federalism.
Additionally, KTR noted that he had requested Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to consider extending the NH-365B highway.
