Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao has sharply criticised the Congress government in Telangana, asserting that the state is currently under a "mafia rule, not people's rule."

KTR specifically accused the government of enabling the sand mafia by allowing the use of gelatin sticks to blow up check dams, a move he linked to the earlier "bombing" of the Kaleshwaram project during the previous elections.

He cited renowned water conservationist Rajendra Singh, who called the recent check dam damage "man-made destruction." KTR highlighted Singh's evidence, which allegedly shows holes drilled with machines, gelatin sticks inserted, and then detonated to remove check dams obstructing illegal sand mining.

Questioning how structures built with public funds could be so easily destroyed, KTR argued that the destruction of these groundwater-recharging check dams is turning farmlands into "deserts." He further alleged that the profits of sand contractors are being prioritised over the welfare of Telangana's farmers.

KTR concluded that Rajendra Singh’s report is a direct rebuke to Congress ministers, whom he accused of spreading "false stories" claiming the check dams collapsed due to natural causes.
