KARIMNAGAR: Handlooms and textiles minister Tummala Nageswara Rao criticised former minister K. T. Rama Rao for failing to clear the pending bills to weavers despite being in charge of the handloom and textiles department for ten years. Accompanied by welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, Government whip Aadi Srinivas, principal secretary of textiles and handlooms Shailaja Ramaiyar, and district collector Sandeep Kumar Jha, Tummala Nageswara Rao launched ‘Nethanna Podupu’ and ‘Nethanna Bhima’ schemes at an event held at a private function hall in Rajanna Sircilla district on Tuesday. On the occasion, the ministers distributed cheques of ₹ 68.14 crore to 4,963 weavers under the Nethanna Podupu scheme and ₹ 60 lakh to the families of 12 deceased weavers under the Nathanna Bhima. Speaking on the occasion, Minister Nageswara Rao said the People’s government is releasing all pending bills for weavers, which have been unpaid for the past 10 years by the previous BRS government, and is also taking steps to waive loans up to ₹ 1 lakh for weavers, fulfilling a long-standing request of the weavers’ community. “The handloom loans totaling ₹ 33 crore will be waived in the upcoming cabinet meeting, similar to the loan waiver for farmers,” he announced.

“The government has already set up a yarn depot in Vemulawada, and so far, 2,500 metric tonnes of yarn have been supplied to 100 societies. It is also paying all outstanding dues for various weaver welfare schemes despite a difficult economic situation in the state. In addition to this, the government plans to distribute 1.3 crore high-quality sarees worth ₹ 480 each to 65 lakh women of the self-help groups, with each woman receiving two sarees per year. As part of its endeavor, the government has already issued work orders worth ₹ 600 crore to Sircilla weavers for various government projects under GO. No.1,” Tummala Nageswara Rao said. Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar criticised the previous BRS government and the Kalvakuntla family for acting like Kings. He accused BRS MLA KT Rama Rao of deceiving the people of the region despite being elected to the assembly and leaving behind ₹ 370 crore in pending payments.

Vemulawada MLA Aadi Srinivas said the Congress government has kept its promise of continuing development works in Sircilla, and it cleared the outstanding bills left by the previous BRS government. He mentioned that work orders for school uniforms and the ‘Indira Mahila Shakti’ sarees have already been issued to ensure weavers have year-round employment.
