Hyderabad:Minister Konda Surekha has urged the TPCC disciplinary committee to identify the persons behind the “humiliating and derogatory” remarks being made against her and her family members and initiate stringent disciplinary action against them.
In a letter to TPCC disciplinary committee chairman Mallu Ravi on Saturday, Surekha expressed anguish that the remarks targeting her and her family continued even after she had submitted her explanation to the show-cause notice issued by the committee. She suspected a few 'hidden forces' behind this and requested the committee to conduct an impartial inquiry to identify the “real persons” operating from behind the scenes and take strict disciplinary action against them.
Surekha also asked the committee to examine whether attempts were being made to influence its independent decision-making process while its inquiry was still under way. She pointed out that public criticism of her, pronouncements on her political future and demands made before the media for action against her could amount to an attempt to influence the disciplinary committee’s proceedings.
“I have complete respect for party discipline. At the same time, it is a matter of concern that the party leadership is maintaining silence when a senior BC woman leader like me is being subjected to severe verbal attacks,” she said. Surekha said the party leadership should also examine the intentions behind those coming before the media to pass judgments on her political future and demand disciplinary action against her.
She maintained that the issue should not be viewed only from the perspective of the show-cause notice issued to her, but also in the context of the alleged campaign against her and her family members. Surekha appealed to the disciplinary committee to uphold the Congress’ democratic values, social justice, women’s empowerment and the self-respect of weaker sections. Those acting contrary to these principles should face stringent action in accordance with the party’s disciplinary code, she said.
