Hyderabad: Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO) has taken up an ambitious programme to convert Kodangal mandal into the country’s first “Solar Model” mandal. The initiative goes beyond existing model solar villages by seeking to make an entire mandal fully solar — a first of its kind in India.

In a review meeting chaired by district collector Musharraf Farooqui, TGREDCO vice‑chairman and managing director urged elected representatives, officials, vendors and residents to work in close coordination to complete the programme within the deadline.

Officials reported that permissions have been granted to install rooftop solar systems for 5,186 electricity service connections under the Gruha Jyothi scheme in Kodangal mandal. Of these, 2,418 connections have been identified as technically suitable, and around 2,000 rooftop installations have already been completed. Authorities were directed to finish the remaining installations within the next month.

Farooqui stressed that village‑level participation by public representatives is critical to meeting the target. He asked them to raise awareness among residents, encourage eligible beneficiaries to participate and promptly resolve local issues to accelerate implementation.

Several sarpanches and public representatives raised concerns that beneficiary lists were not available in their villages. Farooqui instructed TGREDCO officials and vendors to provide each sarpanch with the list through local authorities and to share progress updates regularly.

TGSPDCL officials were directed to fast‑track net‑meter installations and grid synchronisation so beneficiaries can quickly start receiving solar power benefits.
