Kishan urges Revanth to fast tract land acquisition for highways

The minister said only 904.097 hectares of land was handed over by the state government to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and 646.432 hectares of land is required to complete the projects

HYDERABAD: Union minister G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to fast track land acquisition process for the 16 proposed national highways in the state.

Out of 1,550.529 hectares of land is required for the 16 projects, the minister said only 904.097 hectares of land was handed over by the state government to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and 646.432 hectares of land is required to complete the projects.

Stating that the land acquisition is yet to be completed even after the Union highways ministry and NHAI wrote a number of letters to the officials of the state government, Kishan Reddy asked the Chief Minister to take personal initiative to speed up the land acquisition to ensure that the works for 2,500 km long national highways, which are taken up at a cost of `12,619.27 crore, are completed.

Highlighting the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to Telangana, Kishan Reddy said 2,500 kms of national highways were constructed in 66 years till till 2014, while another 2,500 km was added to the highway network in the state within 11 years under the Modi government.

He said the central government had spent `1.20 lakh crore for developing national highways in the state. Out of 33 newl districts in the state, 32 districts have been covered with national highways and all the credit goes to the Modi government, he said.
