Kishan: State Support Key for Renewable Plan
The initiatives were projected to attract investments in the range of Rs.10,000 crore over the next three years
Hyderabad: Union minister for coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy has called upon the state government to play an active role in accelerating renewable energy projects across the state. In an official letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Kishan Reddy outlined the Centre’s readiness to partner with Telangana for the development of solar and wind power plants, pumped storage projects (PSPs) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a proposed investment of nearly Rs.10,000 crore over the next three years.
Emphasising the national importance of clean energy expansion, Kishan Reddy noted that major Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) under his ministry, including Coal India Limited (CIL) and NLC India Limited (NLCIL), are eager to collaborate on strategically significant projects. Among the key proposals, the Centre intends to identify high solar energy potential zones within Telangana for establishing state-of-the-art power plants, develop advanced BESS infrastructure to ensure grid reliability, and conduct feasibility studies for large-scale pumped storage projects.
To ensure the speed and efficacy of these projects, the Centre has proposed forming joint venture models either with state government entities or as independent ventures by Central coal companies. However, the minister stressed that the success of these ventures hinges on the Telangana government’s support, particularly in land acquisition and local coordination.
Highlighting the state’s abundant renewable energy potential and its pivotal role in India’s sustainable energy ambitions, Kishan Reddy urged the CM to expedite approvals and foster seamless alignment with the Centre’s vision. “A constructive partnership and firm coordination between the state government and Central PSUs is absolutely vital,” Kishan Reddy asserted, reiterating the Centre’s commitment to supporting Telangana’s green growth and positioning the state at the forefront of India’s clean energy transition.
