 Hyderabad: Bandlaguda police rescued a kidnapped labourer and arrested six men within six hours of the crime, exposing a ransom attempt by a gang locally known as the “ganja batch.”

Police said the victim, Shaik Shahasa Vali of Noorinagar, was returning home when the accused — Amer, Omer, Amer Ali, Rahman, Imran and Naib of Chintalmet, Rajendranagar — intercepted him near EWS Colony, Ghousenagar. When he refused to pay the money demanded, the gang dragged him at knife-point into an autorickshaw, took him to a house in Sriramnagar Colony, Jalpally, assaulted him and forced him to call his brother. They threatened to kill him unless `2,000 was transferred via a payment app.

Police seize ganja worth Rs 4.5 L

Domalguda police seized 18 kg of dry ganja worth Rs 4.5 lakh and arrested two youths from Aurangabad. Another accused from Vijayawada is absconding. Central zone DCP K. Shilpavalli said the arrested were identified as Komal Sominath Pavar, 23, and Sahil Mahesh, 18. They planned to sell the contraband in Aurangabad. Police caught them while they were moving suspiciously at Liberty Crossroads. The duo had travelled from Vijayawada to Hyderabad to board a bus when they were apprehended.

2 people drown in stream, died

Two persons drowned in the Chinneti vagu stream at Tajpoor in Bhongir mandal, Yadadri-Bhongir district, while fishing on Monday. The victims were identified as Md Basha, 52, of Tajpoor, and his friend K. Venkatesh, 53, of Bhongir town. Police said they had cast a fishing net in the stream when it got stuck in the bushes. As they entered the water to free it, they were swept away in the current and fell from the check dam. Both died on the spot.

Actor booked on wife’s plaint

A case has been registered against 30-year-old film actor Dharma Mahesh, alias Kakani Dharma Sathyasai Srinivasamahesh, at Gachibowli women’s police station following a complaint by his wife, Gautami, 31, a social media influencer.

Police said the couple, residents of Madhapur, married in 2019 and have a son. Gautami alleged that Mahesh, who acted in Sindhuram and Drinker Sai, had become addicted to partying and hunting, neglected family responsibilities and was involved in an extramarital relationship.

She further accused him of harassing her and demanding additional dowry whenever she questioned his lifestyle. Police registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS and are investigating.
