Khammam: A 12-year-old girl sustained serious injuries after she was allegedly pushed from an apartment building following a sexual assault attempt by a person in Khammam city of Telangana. The incident, which took place on June 6, came to light only recently after a police complaint was lodged.
According to police, the girl’s family stayed in an apartment complex under the Khammam II Town Police Station limits where her father worked as a watchman. On June 6, the accused (49), who resides in the same apartment, allegedly attempted to sexually assault the minor. When she screamed for help, the accused allegedly pushed her from the building. She suffered severe injuries to her spine and ribs in the fall. The girl was rushed to a private hospital in Khammam, where she is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be in a stable condition.
Upon regaining consciousness on Monday, the girl said a person tried to molest her and pushed her from the corner of the fourth floor.
Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the POCSO Act, and the accused was arrested. The police said that a week before the incident, the girl's mother had told a resident that the accused had attempted to molest her daughter, though she had not filed any complaint. Further investigation is underway.
