HYDERABAD: A day after the Telangana High Court declined to provide immediate relief to former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao on their petition to suspend or stay the Justice P.C. Ghose commission report into the Kaleshwaram project barrages, the two BRS leaders met at Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse in Erravalli to discuss their next steps.

With the state government given three weeks to file its counter in the case, KCR and Harish Rao on Saturday discussed various legal options, including the possibility of approaching the Supreme Court. Sources said no final decision had been taken.

Both leaders were named as primarily responsible, according to the government’s presentation of the commission’s findings, for the failures at the Medigadda barrage, which suffered the most serious damage among the three Kaleshwaram barrages, including Annaram and Sundilla. They have since sought a copy of the full report and moved the High Court for relief.

Party sources said the two leaders, who have faced strong criticism from Congress leaders over the commission’s findings, remain confident that their case will hold up. They argue that there were procedural lapses in the inquiry and that provisions of the Commissions of Inquiry Act were not followed. “There are likely to be further discussions before a final call is taken on the next steps from KCR and Harish,” a senior BRS leader said.
