Hyderabad: The simmering infighting within the BRS intensified on Sunday, with MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of party patriarch K. Chandrashekar Rao, launching a scathing attack on senior leader G. Jagadish Reddy. She also pointedly said her “brothers” in the party had not come to her defence.

Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Kavitha described Jagadish Reddy as a “Lilliput leader” from Nalgonda district and accused him of orchestrating derogatory remarks made against her on social media, including those by Congress MLC Chintapandu Naveen.
Kavitha claimed that the BRS had collapsed in Nalgonda due to Jagadish Reddy’s leadership, and questioned his political standing without the backing of Chandrashekar Rao. “He says ‘Who is Kavitha without KCR?’ I ask him the same — who is he without KCR?” she said, sharply criticising Reddy for allegedly encouraging internal sabotage.

“The BRS party was washed away in Nalgonda district in the 2023 Assembly polls because of this ‘Lilliput leader’. He won by a whisker in a fluke. But he is criticising me. What credibility does he has to criticise me,” Kavitha asked.

Expressing disappointment with the BRS’s silence, she said that even as Telangana society condemned the abusive remarks against her, her “brothers” in the BRS chose not to speak out. “I have credible information that these comments were encouraged by party insiders. Their silence only confirms it,” she stated, hinting at deliberate efforts to isolate her within the party.
Kavitha also dismissed comments by BJP leader C.M. Ramesh on a possible BRS-BJP merger, claiming his remarks were twisted from a leaked letter she had written to Chandrashekar Rao. “I haven’t even met Ramesh in the last five years,” she clarified.
Defending her upcoming protest for BC community reservations, Kavitha said the 72-hour hunger strike beginning Monday would follow a Gandhian path. She reiterated her demand for 42 per cent reservations for the Backward Classes in Telangana and said the dharna aimed to provide a platform for around 112 BC communities over three days.
In a sharp rebuttal, Jagadish Reddy said he had nothing to say except to offer "sympathies" to Kavitha. Speaking to media, Jagadish Reddy claimed she was merely echoing BRS opponents like Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and a senior journalist. Taking a satirical tone, he “saluted” Kavitha for questioning his role in the Telangana movement and spoke of his long association with the statehood agitation.
While acknowledging his narrow margin of victory from Suryapet, Reddy pointed out that most BRS MLAs had failed to retain their seats. “If I’m blamed for winning only one seat out of 12 MLA seats in combined Nalgonda district, then credit me for the 12-seat sweep in 2018 as well,” he said.
