Hyderabad: In an emotional address to the Telangana Legislative Council on Monday, MLC K. Kavitha announced that her organisation, Telangana Jagruthi, will be transformed into a full-fledged political party to contest the forthcoming elections.
Visibly moved, Kavitha told the House that she had faced “suppression of personal freedom” and “deep humiliation” within her former party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. She said she had discharged every responsibility assigned to her with commitment, but was targeted when she began questioning the party’s functioning. “If there is no internal democracy within a party, how can it protect democracy in the state?” she asked.
Launching a sharp attack on the BRS leadership, Kavitha alleged that the party had turned into a “political rehabilitation centre for betrayers of the Telangana movement.” She further claimed that she was left to fend for herself when central agencies initiated action against her, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party acted out of political vendetta against her father, K. Chandrashekar Rao, while her own party failed to stand by her.
Targeting the previous state government, Kavitha levelled sweeping corruption allegations, saying irregularities had marred projects ranging from the Martyrs’ Memorial to Collectorate buildings. Citing the Siddipet Collectorate, she claimed it was washed away in a single spell of rain, calling it emblematic of poor construction and governance.
She also accused the BRS regime of abandoning the core objectives of the Telangana movement — Neellu, Nidhulu, Niyamakalu (water, funds and jobs) — and of failing to honour martyrs or support activists. Referring to the long-pending reopening of the Bodhan Sugar Factory, she described the government’s inaction as a personal insult. On the Kaleshwaram project, she said that when allegations surfaced, no senior leader came forward to defend KCR, prompting her to hold a press conference to name those she alleged were responsible for corruption.
Outlining her political roadmap, Kavitha said she was severing ties with what she called her “birth home” to begin a new journey. “This is not a dispute over assets; it is a fight for self-respect,” she declared. “I am breaking all emotional and political ties and coming directly to the people seeking your blessings. I may leave this House today as an individual, but I will return as a political force.”
She said the new party would focus on students, the unemployed, women and marginalised sections, promising a people-centric agenda and a fresh political alternative for Telangana.
