Karimnagar Police Near Breakthrough in PMJ Robbery Case
Teams tracking the suspects across multiple states and recovering part of the stolen property in West Bengal
KARIMNAGAR: Karimnagar police are close to solving the May 3 robbery at a PMJ jewellery showroom in the city, with teams tracking the suspects across multiple states and recovering part of the stolen property in West Bengal, according to sources.
The investigation has identified the accused as members of an inter-state gang from West Bengal, Bihar and Rajasthan. Police suspect the group was formed during prison terms and has been involved in robberies across northern, northeastern and central regions to avoid local detection.
Officials found that six members of the gang stayed in the region for nearly a month before the robbery. They allegedly posed as mechanics and lodged at a facility in Peddapalli on three occasions. Police said they used public transport for reconnaissance and kept a white coloured motorcycle at a paid parking location for about 30 days while moving between Jagtial, Siddipet and Karimnagar.
Investigators said the suspects narrowly avoided a road accident near Vedira in Ramadugu mandal on the day of the offence. After the robbery, they destroyed their mobile phones to evade GPS tracking. The damaged devices have been recovered and sent for forensic analysis.
Police have launched a manhunt in Bihar and Rajasthan to trace the remaining members. Officials believe another accomplice assisted the gang by arranging a heavy vehicle for transporting the accused and the stolen property.
A motorcycle suspected to have been used in the crime was recovered from Dharmapuri Ghat, while the white bike remains untraced. Police officials indicated that a breakthrough in the case is expected soon, though no formal announcement has been made.
