Karimnagar Leads With 1,257 Nominations for Civic Polls
The BRS had 7,556 aspirants, BJP 5,457, AIMIM 576 and CPM 284.
Hyderabad:Karimnagar Municipal Corporation saw the highest number of nominations in the state on Friday, with 1,257 candidates filing papers for the upcoming civic polls. Nizamabad followed with 976, Kothagudem with 801 and Mahbubnagar with 781.
In all, 29,694 nominations were filed across 2,996 wards. Congress aspirants accounted for 10,024, though the party has not yet issued B Forms. The BRS had 7,556 aspirants, BJP 5,457, AIMIM 576 and CPM 284.
Other parties in the fray include TD, which fielded candidates in Pedapalli, Suryapet and Miryalguda, and YSRC, which filed one nomination in Khammam. Others in the fray are AAP (50), BSP (326), registered parties (1,645) and 3,745 independents, bringing the total to 29,694 for 2,996 wards.
Returning officers completed scrutiny of nominations on Saturday. Appeals against rejections can be filed until 5 pm on February 1, with disposal scheduled for February 2. Withdrawal of candidature is on February 3, when the final list of candidates in the fray will be released.
