Karimnagar Family Booked for Blackmailing Bandi Sanjay's Son of Rs 5 Crore

The accused in the case are not being named, as a counter-complaint filed by the family in Cyberabad says the girl involved is a minor.

Karimnagar:Karimnagar Two Town police filed a case and launched an investigation after Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union minister of state MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, lodged a complaint alleging an extortion racket. An FIR was registered against three members of a family for allegedly trying to blackmail Bageerath for Rs 5 crore by threatening to file fabricated criminal cases against him.

The incident, which has created a stir in political and social circles in Karimnagar, involved a family residing in Jyothinagar. Bageerath stated that what began as a social friendship gradually turned into a planned attempt to extort money from him.

According to the FIR, Bageerath became acquainted with the girl through a common friend. Presenting themselves as a respectable family, the complaint said, she and her parents became part of his social circle and frequently invited him to family functions and gatherings. Trusting them, Bageerath travelled with the family and other friends on pilgrimages to Vijayawada, Arunachalam and Tirumala.

The complaint stated that after gaining his trust, the family allegedly began forcing Bageerath to marry the girl. When he refused, the family allegedly threatened to implicate him in false criminal cases, including under the Pocso Act, by accusing him of harassment and maintaining a physical relationship with the girl.

Bageerath alleged that, fearing public humiliation and mental harassment, he paid the family `50,000 had hoped the matter would end. However, the accused allegedly escalated their demands and sought `5 crore from him. They also allegedly used emotional blackmail by threatening that a family member would die by suicide if the amount was not paid.

Karimnagar II Town police, under the supervision of sub-inspector A. Srinath, registered FIR No. 253 of 2026 under provisions related to extortion, criminal intimidation and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said an investigation is underway and electronic evidence and witness statements connected to the alleged extortion attempt are being verified.
